Mohs scale rates scratch resistance from 1–10. For daily wear, look for 8.5+. Moissanite (9.25) and diamonds (10) lead the pack; emeralds (7.5) need gentler care.
Brilliance is white light return. Fire is colored rainbow dispersion. Moissanite has more fire than diamond. Rose cuts and step cuts have neither — just a soft glow.
Lab-grown stones are chemically identical to their natural counterparts — same hardness, same fire. The difference is origin, not quality. Lab stones cost significantly less.
