The Story Behind the Ring
USS California Teak Wood Ring Inlay
Known for its sturdiness and water resistance, Teak wood was a mainstay in shipbuilding in the 18th and 19th centuries. The US Navy used this South East Asia grown wood on the decks of many of the battleships that they built, including the USS California.
The USS California was commissioned in 1921 and was awaiting inspection when the Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor. The seamen were not able to secure the ship after Japan torpedoed it which resulted in lost lives and the USS California sinking to the bottom of the Harbor.
The great American spirit would not be deterred and the USS California was resurrected from the depths of the harbor and sent into battle in WWII. Not only is this wood a symbol of our grit and love for life here in America, it is beautiful wood with tight straight grain accented by the rich brown and golden colored hues in it. These colors make it a perfect fit to pair with Solid Yellow Gold.
